Charcoal filters help to purify the air by absorbing cooking odours in the kitchen. Odours are passed through the charcoal filters and once filtered the recycled air goes back into the room. Charcoal filters, also known as carbon filters, are only required when using the recirculation mode on a cooker hood. Recirculation is a good option if ducting is unable to reach an outside wall. It is recommended that the carbon filters are changed regularly, at least every 2-3 months.
